Geopolitics is the battle for space and power played out in a geographical setting. Just as there are military geopolitics, diplomatic geopolitics and economic geopolitics, there is also energy geopolitics. As upcoming Business leaders, we cannot underestimate or be ignorant of the role, space and power of Geopolitics in business.
On 9th April 2018, Dr. Dimitrios Kokkinos, who holds over 40 years of extensive work experience, interacted with the GMBA & MGB Jan 2018 class to share insights about Geopolitics of Business. Dr. Dimitrios is also the author of 'The Geopolitics of Energy in the Triangle of Europe – Asia - Middle East', and guided the students on how to unravel the world of Geopolitics of Energy and how it affects International Business decisions.
The session was divided into two halves; in the first half, Dr. Dimitrios spoke about the historical events that shaped the Geopolitics of energy scenario today. The second half of the lecture covered more recent events in a sequential manner such as the Iraq war led by US coalition and how soaring demands from China, and Middle East political tension resulted in a steep rise of oil price.
The session was a perfect blend of interaction and information sharing. The students were bustling with numerous questions, which Dr. Dimitrios answered patiently.
