SP Jain School of Global Management’s Singapore Campus welcomed 20 students from diverse industries to its May 2019 cohort of the Executive MBA (EMBA) program. Held at the Singapore campus on May 2, 2019, the orientation ceremony of the 17th batch was graced by the presence of the Guest of Honour, Mr. S.V. Padmanabhan, President & Global Head of Finance, Olam International, and the staff and faculty of SP Jain.
The new cohort comprises students from various industries including Engineering, Banking, Real Estate, Logistics and IT with an average work experience of 14 years.
The students not only come from a robust mix of industries but also diverse nationalities including Filipino, Indian, Chinese and Singaporean.

Ms. Anu Madan, Manager, Industry Interface & Alumni Relations, SP Jain, was the host for the evening and started the orientation with a lamp-lighting ceremony led by the Guest of Honour, Mr. S.V. Padmanabhan; Dr. John Fong, CEO & Head of Campus (Singapore), SP Jain; and Prof. A Seetharaman, Dean, Academic Affairs, SP Jain. This was followed by the SP Jain Prayer recited by Ms. Caroline Laporte, Program Manager, EMBA, SP Jain, and the Pledge recited by Mr. Jonathan Burgos, our student from the new EMBA batch.
During his welcome address, Dr. John Fong said, “We live for days like these when we welcome a new batch of students embarking on our 18-month Executive MBA program! It is truly amazing to see a diverse group of students from renowned companies such as Microsoft, Citibank, DBS Bank, OCBC Bank and many others.”
The welcome note was followed by Mr. Padmanabhan’s inspiring talk that set the tone for the start of our students’ academic journey. Wishing our students, Mr. Padmanabhan said, “You have taken the first step to unlearn, learn and relearn in this VUCA world with a simple objective of making your life more meaningful for you and people around you. I wish the new EMBA batch all the very best to grow to the fullest potential in whatever field they choose in line with their passion.”
Prof. Veena Jadhav, Assistant Dean (EMBA) Singapore & Assistant Professor (HRM), SP Jain, also shared a few insights during her engaging address; she reminded students of some lessons in management and the importance of ability and resilience in today’s world.
This was followed by a networking dinner and a range of ice-breaker activities where our students introduced themselves.
