Dr Shalini Chandra (Associate Professor – Information Technology, SP Jain School of Global Management) wrote an article in The Hindu on IT mindfulness and its impact on online learning effectiveness.

In the article, she spoke about how lockdowns and social distancing restrictions amid the COVID-19 pandemic forced educational institutions to shift from traditional classroom learning modes to online learning. This sudden shift resulted in enhanced IT demands that not all learners could cope with. Students across the world reported learning and productivity loss and emotional distress. Promoting IT mindfulness was one way to boost online learning effectiveness during this time, shared Dr Chandra.

She explains, “IT mindfulness is an IT-specific individual trait that can help users extract value from their IT use. It is noticeable when users focus on the present, pay attention to distinctive operational details, and display interest to investigate new features, with the overall goal of getting better insights and improving their functioning.”

“Educators should take into consideration IT mindfulness in designing their technology-mediated instruction process. For students high on IT mindfulness, the switch to online learning would have been relatively easy.”
