On June 13, 2020, our Year 2 Bachelor of Business Administration students bagged the first place and a cash prize of USD 3,000 at the IMA (Institute of Management Accountants) Student Case Competition - Middle East 2020.
The competition was designed for students across universities in the Middle East and Africa to take part in responding to a stimulating and inspiring business case on "Dalton Convention Center: A Beacon or White Elephant”.
The SP Jain team representing the Dubai campus included Phuong Nguyen, HanhMinh Pham, HaVuNgan Nguyen, Chi Nguyen and Linh Phan – proudly calling themselves Team Halipuchi (initials of each of their names).
Our students were shortlisted among the top four earlier in March 2020 to compete and showcase their strong recommendations to the case challenge applying strategic foresight, analytical and interpersonal skills in developing cutting-edge solutions to the business case.
The top four teams in the final round were: SP Jain School of Global Management (first place), Middlesex University Dubai, Jubail University College and German University in Cairo (second place).
The team expressed their gratitude towards SPR Vittal (Assistant Professor, SP Jain) for his valuable guidance and mentorship, Megna Kalvani (Senior Manager, Global Learning & Student Life, SP Jain) and Nitin Patwa (Associate Professor and Deputy Director of Undergraduate Programs, Dubai, SP Jain) for their advice and constant support through the project.
“I am quite happy for their stupendous work and it adds value to the institute,” said Prof Vittal who was the lead mentor during the project.
Prof Patwa shared, “The group is extremely sincere, focussed, diligent and meticulous with their work. Their attention to detail at anything they do is very high. Out-of-classroom learning and application is important and such achievements are vital for our students’ holistic development and fills us with pride.”
Global Learning & Student Life looks at how students develop and progress out of the classroom to emerge as the global leaders that we strive for them to become. “Even though the lockdown hit our sense of normalcy, the team was able to stay connected and coordinated during quarantine phases, able to take in feedback and practice virtually via mock presentations with the sole focus to improve and give it their all. I am happy to be part of their journey and proud of each one of them,” said Megna Kalvani (Senior Manager, Global Learning & Student Life, SP Jain).
