Dr Silvia Vianello, Director Innovation Lab, SP Jain School of Global Management was interviewed by Dubai Eye, a popular business radio station in the UAE, on 23rd October 2018. She was invited to talk on the channel’s show, The Agenda, where she covered topics like the future of jobs with robotics, ethical use of artificial intelligence, how disruptive innovations can change our life and the impact of technology on sustainability.
When asked whether our jobs are safe in the advent of artificial intelligence, Dr Silvia Vianello said, “In my opinion, we should consider that for every job that’s going to be replaced by a robot, other three will be created. How? It’s simple. It is true that robots can take your job, but you need someone to create the technology itself. You also need someone to manage the technology. The third job would be the maintenance of technology. You need to have different profiles and different skills. Companies need to have on board people with these types of skills.”
Are certain jobs and careers at higher risk of getting replaced? Dr Vianello said, “Oh, yes. Definitely. Routine jobs will be at risk. If you are doing repetitive tasks, your job might be at risk. But if you have a job with a lot of creativity and wisdom, if you take many decisions in a short amount of time, you change your tasks every second because it is unpredictable, then it’s going to be a job that you can keep for the rest of your life.”
